ABOUT ME

My interest in science dates back to my years in Secondary (high) school, where I excelled in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Then in my first year of college, I took preparatory courses for electronic and communication engineering at a local college and I earned an "A+" excellent record for all subjects. It seemed only logical that I pursue a career in electrical engineering.

When I began my undergraduate career, I was exposed to the full range of engineering courses, all of which tended to reinforce and solidify my intense interest in engineering. I have benefited from the breadth of the Arab Academy for Science and Technology (Egypt) content which has given me comprehensive exposure to the core areas of electrical and computer engineering and a strong conceptual understanding of the same. In these five years of study, I have strived to maintain an approach of expending independent effort in all my endeavors. Learning by myself and sharing my knowledge with others has been most worthwhile when comprehending a concept. In the realm of engineering, I have developed a special interest in the field of information and network security and its technologies as well as communication and I have even been taking external courses in security and communications. Another particular interest of mine is Digital signal processing (DSP).

For my B.Sc. project, I have decided to concentrate on my areas of interest, I chose a project that combines both security and DSP/ neural networks together, at this project we created a technique for Iris recognition and combined it with public key cryptography as digital signature creation algorithm for national ID cards, where we published a journal paper.

Moreover, in graduate studies for my master's degree, I learned advanced topics in DSP and its many practical applications, especially in image processing. Professor of this course was sufficiently impressed with my work to ask to work on a course project in image processing which was in stenography. Then I chose the master thesis to be in the security field. I chose the digital forensic field, as I was interested in this new science and the new technologies involved in this field. The ongoing work has introduced me to a vast body of pertinent research and sharpened my inclination to engage in active research within this area. We published 3 papers during this study.

Over the past years, I have developed an interest in the areas of information and network security, as I'm actually working in this field. I worked in an IT Industry development agency from the ministry of communication and Information technology in Egypt for twelve years starting in 2005. We worked on projects for building the Egyptian infrastructure for information security and e-signature applications.

Of course, I planned to move directly into graduate work toward my Ph.D. in computing. I believe my achievements and the industry-related security work can serve and help me achieve my goal of starting my career as a research professional at an academic or commercial, research-oriented organization. In my doctoral studies, I worked in the Information Security field focusing on my special interests while combining them with my industrial experience.
